| Zpeiz Mukaki is a
Basque Cultural group based out of the Basque province of Lapurdi in
South Western France. The group was formed in the spring of
2006 to celebrate the fifteen year anniversary of the Basque
Youth club of the village of Sara. The goal of the group is to
perform dances to contemporary music that would be geared toward the
youth. Since then the group has performed all over
Iparralde (Northern Basque Country) at places such as Baiona,
Baigorri (Nafarroaren Eguna), Sara, Senpere (Herri Urrats), and they
have also performed in Hegoalde (South Basque Country) at places
such as Bilbo, Donostia, Segura, Gasteiz, Lekeitio. The group
has also performed outside of the Basque Country in places such as
Corsica, Catalonia, Brittany, Dijon, and Bordeaux. Their show is a mixture of popular Basque art: Dance, singing and bertso (sung improvised poetry in Basque). The foundation of their vibrant performance are traditional Basque dances (banako, agurra, euskaldunak sorginak, fandago, makil, ttiki, murtsante etc...) set to Basque rock standards and contemporary traditional music. |
